My spiritual journey began in the late 1960’s by readings focused upon yoga and this interest brought me to the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and Bhagavad-gītā. The personal aspect of the Supreme drew my interest as providence connected me with the writings of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami, specifically his English presentation of Bhagavad-gītā As It Is and a summary study the Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta of Kṛṣṇadāsa Kavirāja Gosvāmī. This interest so consumed me that I made connection with a rural spiritual ashrama in 1970, taking up full-time residence there in early 1971, accepting spiritual initiation and becoming a traveling monk before the year ended.
A natural inclination for financial management and business made for a life’s work while maintaining a deep interest in personal spiritual growth and theistic study. The great majority of my vocation was fully dedicated to various spiritual communities, ashrams and temples. For a period of twelve years beginning in the early 1990’s, I dedicated myself to the archival presentation of the literary works and images of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami. This service was highlighted by the extreme good fortune of developing the very first Vedabase, a digitally indexed electronic English presentation of essential Vedic wisdom.
In 2011 Swami B.V. Tripurari, my spiritual mentor and god-brother, requested my wife, Bhakti Rasa, and I to sell our retail business and home in Winston-Salem and establish a residence near his newly acquired Saragrahi lands south of Asheville in western North Carolina. In pursuance of this request on April 2nd, 2012 we established Ananda Ashrama, our current home and a monks ashram just two miles from the Saragrahi lands.
At this time I assist in financial and business affairs for Saragrahi, take spiritual nourishment and shelter in the compassionate association of Swami Tripurari, and dedicate the majority of my energy to spiritual meditation, study and teaching online and at Ananda Ashrama.
